Desert ironwood is one of the hardest and most durable woods in the world. It is one of the few kinds of wood that is heavy enough to sink in water.

Tungsten carbide is the most scratch-resistant material currently available for rings. It will never rust or tarnish and is completely waterproof. You can put your ring in a bucket of ferric chloride for a year and it will be totally fine (though I don't recommend it).
